BonChon Chicken Philippines – Original Korean Crispy Fried Chicken.

Everyone loves chicken (except those with allergies – some that I knew of), especially the fried ones. It’s best grabbing those fried chicken with the bare hands and dip it with your favorite sauce or gravy. But there’s an interesting way on how to eat your chicken, specifically, the wings (also called the Buffalo wing). And I have learned that during the celebration of the newest BonChon branch at One Parkade in Bonifacio High Street, BGC, Taguig City.

Eating the wing part is sometimes messy or sometimes, the meaty part is left out on the plate without consuming all of the Buffalo wing. Mr. Alexander Scott Tan showed us how to BonChon the Buffalo wing with style!

Alexander Scott Tan, Managing  Director, proudly shows his finished BonChon-ing.

Brief background first. BonChon is a Korean word meaning “original village” and is a global brand originated in South Korea in 2002 representinga contemporary Asian/Korean-American QSR (Quick Service Restaurant) cuisine that highlights the super crispy yet light and non-greasy Korean fried/crispy chicken. BonChon already captivated the discerning taste of the citizens of New York, San Francisco ,and Boston in USA. BonChon Chicken Philippines opened its first store in November 2010 and since then spawned with 18 branches in metro Manila and is considered to be one of the fastest-growing fried chicken based QSR in the country. Aside form the famed chicken menu, BonChon also serve Seafood, Rice Meals, Sandwiches, Wraps, Salads, Sides, Chapchae (Korean noodles), and the latest on their entree – KoYo (Korean Yogurt) available for P70 (regualr size) and P35 (mini cup) with two exciting flavors of Banoffe Pie and Blueberry Torte.

Going back to our Buffalo wing 101, Mr. Tan, who is also the Managing Director of BonChon Chicken Philippines, sat down with us (foodies and lifestyle bloggers) one perfect sunny afternoon and taught us the right way to BonChon the chicken wing.

Mr. Tan grabbed a piece of chicken wing holding on both hands each of the tip of the crispy looking chicken part. He then snapped and break the one-piece chicken and separating them apart. On-lookers were like in a suspended animation as we waited for Mr. Tan’s next move. In order to avoid food waste, he first took a bite of the wing’s tip, munching on the thin layered meat part before placing it back on the platter.

Next move, Alexander waved his other hand, like he’s imitating a magician, showed us the remaining and untouched wing part while slowly placing it near his mouth. This chicken wing part is the side from which it was cut-off from the shoulder part of the chicken.

Alexander placed the deliciously looking wing part inside his mouth, and like a kid, bit the wing while we got mesmerized  and patiently waited for the next thing to happen. Voila! The meaty part was munched in just one bite and as Mr. Tan devoured the wing, two joining bones were exposed, beautifully released from Alexander’s mouth in one clean swoop! Amazing! So that’s how you BonChon your chicken wing with style!

Interesting. Now it was our turn to do the same and one by one, we grabbed our own piece and copied Mr. Tan’s way of BonChon-ing the chicken!

That was a learning experience for us. Before, we used to eat the wing part in a hush-hush and very different way. But now, we learned on how to consume it, with style!

Thanks to BonChon. This is a crispy chicken secret the world craves for we will always remember!
